UCC had another up-and-down season results wise this year, but managed to still unearth some bright young stars in the process. And whilst the Saturday side finished this year’s campaign with a comprehensive win against Chiddingstone CC at home (UCC 6/223; Chiddingstone 10/107), we unfortunately (again) finished the season in one of the relegation positions. Yet as always, much fun was had by all who played, which included 8 new faces. Our top performers for the year were:

This year we are again incredibly grateful for all the support offered by Underriver Village Association (UVA) and the greater UCC support community. Our pavilion and ground location are consistently spoken about in high regard by our opposition, with cows, horses, donkeys and Spitfires making weekly appearances. It is truly a fantastic setting to play cricket. A big thank you to our amazing groundsman Nick Watson for yet another season of soil toil.
For several Saturday League games this season though, we struggled to fill a team and had to concede 4 games. We are always keen to hear from anyone who would like a regular or occasional game of cricket. We particularly struggle to fill our teams in the early part of the season (e.g. May and June) as our junior members have school cricket commitments and our university members have exams. So, if you can spare an afternoon at one of the most beautiful locations in Kent to play cricket, then please let me know. Playing in Div 5 of the Kent Village Cricket League allows for all standards of cricketer to play!
Our Sunday team was again ably led by Mark DuBock this year. Our Sunday team ‘share’ their fixtures with Igtham CC and regularly put out a combined team. The age range for this team is 14 to 74 so again if anyone is keen for a competitive but less formal Sunday afternoon game of cricket then please make yourself known to Mark or myself.
Bring on 2024! On behalf of the UCC committee, we thank you all.
Kendall Jarrett (UCC Captain and Acting Chairman)
